Lift and lower shoulders for stress release

Movement shoulder release

Targeting a common stress holding part of the body, may just be the release your body needs to get you through the day.

WHAT

A quick reset for the shoulders.

WHY

Stress and tension can show up in numerous places in the body, with a common area being the shoulders. We have multiple muscle attachments in this area, and providing a little movement may release not only tight and painful shoulders, but be soothing for the neck, upper and mid back too.

HOW

Notice your shoulders. How do they feel?

Lift shoulders high, shrug to the ears.

Maintain this lift then squeeze shoulder blades together – the upper back will narrow, the chest will broaden.

Hold this broadened position as you lower the shoulder blades downward.

Round the back in this lowered position, bring the shoulder blades forward, then lift upwards towards ears again

Hold this lift, and squeeze shoulder blades together as you lower down.

Repeat for 3-4 rounds.

How do your shoulders feel now?

Repeat as necessary.
